There are a number of questions that arise when one thinks of DNA testing at home. We have answered a few questions below to your satisfaction.
1. How long does it take for the sample to reach the lab?
We include an envelope in the home kit that we send you. If you use this paid-envelope, the sample takes about 10 business days to reach us. However, if you are in a hurry, you can use the 1st class mail service or a courier service such as FedEx. If you are an international customer, the time required for the mail to reach us depends on how you send your samples and the place you are sending them from.
2. When can I expect to see my test results?
You usually get your results within one business day. There are, however, exceptions to this one-day rule. The delays are usually due to one of the following:
• To obtain conclusive results, additional testing is required.
• If the mother did not participate in the test, her DNA is required to complete the test.
• Sometimes, the samples provided are contaminated. In such cases, new samples are required.
• The paperwork has not been completed.
• Full payment, which is required before the results are posted, has not been made.
3. Who can get the results?
Only the person who has set up the online account can get access to the results.
4. How do I get my results?
The results are posted to your secure online account. For security reasons, the results are not told over the phone and neither are they emailed to you. You, as the person who set up the account, can request for the hard copy of the report.
5. What do my results mean?
We have to use legal language in our test reports, which can be a little difficult to understand sometimes.
If the result says IS EXCLUDED, it means he cannot be the father because he does not share the biological parent/child relationship.
If the result says IS NOT EXCLUDED, it means that he is the biological father of the child.
